The Kholuka Yaka Mask was used in the context of boys' initiation rites. The mask allowed them to be admitted into society with their new social status.
Marie-Antoinette selected it because it is always good to have ancestral forces on your side. Especially when they are integrated into a very decorative and powerful object.
